Lauderdale County VINE Coverage
Mississippi Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification, or MS SAVIN, is the state VINE program. It draws event data from participating county jails and the Mississippi Department of Corrections. The Lauderdale County Sheriff links to VINELink, and the official state service covers both county booking records and MDOC offender records. That scope makes VINE useful when a person may move from the Lauderdale County Detention Facility into state custody.
Coverage does not make every record the same. A county jail event comes from the sheriff's booking system. An MDOC event comes from the state correctional record. East Mississippi Correctional Facility is an MDOC facility, so its custody changes belong to the state side of the system rather than Lauderdale County's released roster. Federal Bureau of Prisons records are outside MS SAVIN. A federal case requires the BOP locator, not a VINE search.

A one-person check starts at VINELink, not with a broad list of names. Gather the person's legal name and any known booking or offender identifier first. Lauderdale County VINE Result Fields
VINE is an alert layer over agency data. It identifies the agency or facility supplying the record and reports the current event or status available from that source. It is not the county's full booking file, the MDOC sentence timesheet, or a court disposition. Read the words attached to the event rather than inferring a result from the person's absence elsewhere.

A “Release from Custody” notice is useful evidence that the agency recorded a release. It does not state every legal reason, receiving destination, sentence detail, or later hold. Read Lauderdale County Release Events
Lauderdale County has two adult custody paths that can look alike at first. A person leaving the Lauderdale County Detention Facility may be released to the community, transferred to MDOC, taken by another county, or moved under federal or immigration authority. VINE can report a change, but the event wording controls. A transfer must not be relabeled as freedom from custody.
An MDOC record also needs close reading. Parole is release from prison under Board conditions and state supervision. Earned-release supervision, or ERS, is community placement in which the person remains an inmate under MDOC jurisdiction. Full discharge is different from both. The MDOC discharge certificate or Records Department is stronger evidence of sentence completion than a notification or tentative web date.
The sheriff's public released view gives more detail for a recent county event than VINE alone. It can show the booking photograph, name, booking number, release date and time, booking date and time, charges, bond, and a profile link. Yet it omits release reason and destination. Register Lauderdale County Release Alerts
Notification registration begins from the matching person record. The official state material supports telephone, text, and email notices. Available channels and the live confirmation flow can change. Follow the choices shown on the screen rather than assuming that every channel uses the same verification method.
- Open the confirmed person record and choose notification registration.
- Select telephone, text, and/or email only as the live interface offers them.
- Enter the destination carefully and follow the channel confirmation shown on screen.
- Create and retain a telephone PIN only if the current interface asks for one.
- Complete any email or text verification displayed and save the final confirmation.
Do not state that a PIN is always required. The static Mississippi information does not establish one universal PIN process. For email and text, use the verification prompt that appears at enrollment. Several close movements can lead to several notices, so each message should be matched to its event and supplying agency.

Lauderdale VINE Follows Custody Changes
Mississippi's Registration Link provides a useful local-to-state bridge. An enrollment attached to a county record can carry into MDOC or other covered custody when the record moves. This continuity matters in Lauderdale County because leaving the county roster may reflect transfer to state custody rather than release to the community.
When a notice names a new agency, follow that agency's record. A Lauderdale jail departure should be checked against the sheriff's released feed and Inmate Records. VINE and Registry Records Differ
The Mississippi Sex Offender Registry is a separate tool for people legally required to register. It can be searched by name, address radius, or ZIP code. Results may include a photograph, aliases, residence, conviction date, and offense. A match confirms registry inclusion. It does not establish the person's release date or replace VINE for a custody event.
Use the Mississippi registry search only when registration status is relevant. State guidance warns that information can change and that positive identity requires fingerprints. The registry's legal duties begin under a different framework from MS SAVIN alerts, so the two systems should not be merged into one conclusion.

Registry inclusion is also narrower than the county and MDOC coverage described above. It applies only to a person required to register under Mississippi law. Someone can have a valid VINE custody record and no registry record at all. Conversely, a registry entry can remain relevant after custody and supervision events change. The event date must still come from the jail, MDOC, VINE, or court source that actually records it.

An automated alert is not a certified discharge record. County data can lag, and rapid moves can create more than one message. No VINE result should be used to infer that all forms of custody or supervision ended.
When a search produces no result, check spelling, identifiers, the selected state, and the last known facility. Then use the custody-specific fallback. A recent county event goes to the sheriff. A state-prison or parole question goes to MDOC. A case disposition goes to the Lauderdale court that handled it. Absence from VINE can reflect timing, nonparticipation, a data mismatch, or movement between systems, so it is not proof of release.
